Effect of betel nut chewing on the otolithic reflex system

Highlights • Imbibing betel nuts induced a transient loss of the otolithic reflex systems in fresh chewers. • Absent oVEMP and cVEMP may resolve to normal at 20 min after imbibing betel nut in fresh chewers. • Loss of otolithic reflexes may become permanent in habitual chewers.
