Air chemistry monitoring at Palmer Station

This article constitutes a status summary of trace atmospheric constituents at Palmer Station, covering the first 20-22 mo (1983-1984) of routine operation of the sampling station. The constituent mixing ratios are given in a table for CCl sub(3) F (F-11), CCl sub(2) F sub(2) (F-12), methyl chlorofo...

Zusammenfassung:This article constitutes a status summary of trace atmospheric constituents at Palmer Station, covering the first 20-22 mo (1983-1984) of routine operation of the sampling station. The constituent mixing ratios are given in a table for CCl sub(3) F (F-11), CCl sub(2) F sub(2) (F-12), methyl chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, ozone, and Aitken particles. Each of these constituents shows an increasing annual trend. The time trends are attributed to the accumulation in the atmosphere of anthropogenic emissions. The time trends are significantly greater than the calculated standard errors in the regression calculation. The effect of changing synoptic weather situations on trace gas concentrations involving a frontal passage is considered. The frontal passage was accompanied by a decrease in ozone concentration from similar to 25 p.p.b. to
