Using climatologically favored thickness to locate the axis of heaviest rainfall

Heavy rainfall correlates favorably with a relatively narrow band of (1000-500-mb) thickness values, which vary by season and geographic area. This study documents the relationship and attempts to provide insight in how best to use the relationship in quantitative precipitation forecasting.
