An Unpublished Document Relating to the Restoration Actor Michael Mohun

Among the papers held in the Birmingham Archdiocesan Archives is a hitherto unpublished document about the renowned Restoration actor, Michael Mohun (1616?- n1684). The document, dated 1678, adds to the numerous surviving warrants and payments scholars have thus far unearthed, which were issued to the veteran player during the latter years of his employment in the King's Company. Written in May 19, 1678, the document records how Mohun was assessed for poll tax in Whitehall by the commissioners for the City of Westminster and was consequently charged 5 shillings in total.
