Lack of harms from community‐based melanoma screening by primary care providers

Skin cancer screening by primary care physicians results in the increased diagnosis of melanomas without affecting the number of referrals to specialists and surgical procedures. The identification of nonmelanoma skin cancers as part of melanoma screening efforts should not be considered a deleterious effect. See also pages 3152‐6.
