EFFECTS OF HYPERICUM PERFORATUM AND HYPERICUM MACULATUM EXTRACTS ON THE RATS' BRAIN INTOXICATED WITH ALCOHOL

The aim of experiment was to study the effects of two different alcoholic extracts, containing 0.3% and 0.15% hypericin, of two different species of Hypericum (H. perforatum L. and H. maculatum Crantz) on some morphological parameters in rats' brain. Extracts were administered for 10 days in white female Wistar rats, weighing 200 ± 20 g. that were previously intoxicated with alcohol (6g/kg body) for 35 days. The authors found that the administration of Hypericum perforatum and Hypericum maculatum alcoholic extracts in the two experimental variants of dose (0.3% and 0.15% hypericin) had sedative effects, animals manifesting somnolence, especially consecutively with a dose administration of 0.3% of hypericin.
