Zusammenfassung: | Because of her early return to the hospital and concerning symptoms, a CT scan of her lower extremity was obtained, which revealed subfascial air consistent with NF. Concern should be elevated in patients with proposed risk factors of diabetes, obesity, age >60, prior surgery or trauma, IV drug abuse, chronic disease, and immunosuppression.2 Specific to pediatric populations, a wide variety of associated preexisting conditions have been implicated including malnutrition, varicella lesions and immunosuppression.1 However, there are not clearly established risk factors identified for pediatric patients, which poses further challenge to diagnosis in this group. |
