Zusammenfassung: | During the Early Modern English period, books published late in any one year could very well carry the date of the following year on the title page. In the absence of contemporary enunciations of the practice, one's only recourse is to turn to piecemeal evidence in two sources: George Thomason's and Narcissus Lutterell's annotations of the date of purchase of the tracts in their respective pamphlet collections. Stephen Parks' book "The Luttrell File: Narcissus Luttrell's Dates on Contemporary Pamphlets 1678-1730" provides ample evidence for post-dated publication. |
