Biomarker response in Sheim (Acanthopagrus latus) exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Adult sheim Acanthopagrus latus, a fish specie native to the Arabian Gulf, were exposed to benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide, and effects on cytochrome P4501A were examined. Zusammenfassung:Adult sheim Acanthopagrus latus, a fish specie native to the Arabian Gulf, were exposed to benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide, and effects on cytochrome P4501A were examined. The activity of ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase in liver microsomes increased with increasing BaP exposure concentration, and enzyme activity induction was maximized on the fourth day of exposure and then declined. Use of the specie as a biological indicator of PAH contamination in the waters of the Arabian Gulf region is discussed briefly.
