Government employees take detailed photographs and measurements, and they make them available to the public through the Library of Congress's website (www. loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh). The American Society of Mechanical Engineers designated it their first International Mechanical Engineering Heritage Site. The 1987 commemorative bronze plaque on the building states, in part, "The Museum contains the largest collection of historically significant machine tools in the nation..."
