Preclinical platform of retinoblastoma xenografts recapitulating human disease and molecular markers of dissemination

Highlights • Preclinical retinoblastoma models derived from heavily pretreated patients are scarce. • Novel patient-derived preclinical retinoblastoma models (cell cultures in serum-free medium and orthotopic xenografts) reproduce key histologic and genetic features of paired patient biopsies. • Mol...

Zusammenfassung:Highlights • Preclinical retinoblastoma models derived from heavily pretreated patients are scarce. • Novel patient-derived preclinical retinoblastoma models (cell cultures in serum-free medium and orthotopic xenografts) reproduce key histologic and genetic features of paired patient biopsies. • Molecular method (RT-qPCR detection of CRX ) quantifies local and metastatic tumor burden with high sensitivity and specificity in the new xenografts. • Our research expands the previously available preclinical tools for translational research in retinoblastoma.
