Hepatic lipodystrophy of Galloway calves

Histological findings for the liver in each case found a loss of normal architecture with expansion of portal areas by fibrosis and cholangiolar hyperplasia that extended through the limiting plate disrupting hepatic cords with frequent bridging fibrosis. The very small number of reports of this condition in the UK could be the result of the non-specific clinical signs, the cost and availability of postmortem examination services in the upland areas of the country and the probable sporadic nature of the disease (only small numbers are likely to be affected on any one herd).
