Reports on a population of the endemic fly Ostenia robusta (Hutton) (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) near Southbridge, Canterbury. Documents adult emergence over two summers. Presents observations on feeding and reproduction behaviour. Considers the likely impact of O. robusta on populations of the endemic grass grub Costelyta zealandica (White) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae).
