Zusammenfassung:Five series of deep holes have been drilled in sediments of Lake Baikal representing the chronicle of cli mate and environment change in Asia in the Late Cenozoic. The cores of Holes BDP 96 and BDP 98 drilled on the underwater Akademicheskii Ridge separated by deep troughs from the shores are the most interesting for reconstruction of the climate in the Pleistocene. The sediments are composed of finely dispersed material from the water column with an admixture of organic material and diatom valves, the concentration of which provided the data on the peri ods of warming and cooling with good consistency with the marine isotope record.
