Monitoring peri-ictal changes in heart rate variability, oxygen saturation and blood pressure in Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Highlights • 42 patients (57 ictus) underwent HR, SpO2 , BP & ECG monitoring during V-EEG. • Ictal tachycardia and bradycardia was noted in 26.3% and 1.7% of the seizures respectively. • There was increase in sympathetic & decrease in parasympathetic drive during the ictus. • Ictal oxygen de...

Zusammenfassung:Highlights • 42 patients (57 ictus) underwent HR, SpO2 , BP & ECG monitoring during V-EEG. • Ictal tachycardia and bradycardia was noted in 26.3% and 1.7% of the seizures respectively. • There was increase in sympathetic & decrease in parasympathetic drive during the ictus. • Ictal oxygen desaturation (84.1 ± 3.5%) was noticed in 10/57 seizures (17.5%). • Ictal hypertension & hypotension was observed in 15 & 5 seizures respectively. • Both the systolic BP and diastolic BPs increased from the pre-ictal to ictal phase (p = 0.01).
