Polycythemia Vera, an Unusual Suspect in the Case of Spontaneous Splenic Rupture

A grossly enlarged and fractured spleen was mobilized and removed using multiple linear staple loads across the splenic hilum (Figs. 1 and 2). Because of dense adhesions attaching the spleen to the gastric fundus, a wedge resection was performed, releasing the spleen from its attachments.
