Advance care planning: a systematic review of randomised controlled trials conducted with older adults

Highlights • We reviewed the use of advanced care planning with older adults across settings. • The study specifically targeted the implementation of randomised controlled trials. • Only nine randomised controlled trials were identified, two conducted in nursing homes. • The Oxford Quality Scale showed that all studies had some risk of bias across all quality criteria. • Future randomised controlled trials should be better designed to measure the effects of advanced care planning on patients.
