Not only in France, where his work and interests in sociology, surrealism, criticism and literature had taken him to the Académie Française, but in Japan and in Brazil (whose Academy had elected him to the seat previously occupied by André Malraux) and in Argentina, where he had many friends whose thought and work he made known in Europe, his loss was keenly felt in literary and intellectual circles. |
