Zusammenfassung:Syngnathus scovelli makaxi, representing a dwarf subspecies of the gulf pipefish, is described from Isla Mujeres on the Caribbean coast of México. This population is differentiated by its small size and low frequencies of dorsal fin-rays, trunk rings, and brood pouch rings as well as by the near absence of the typical V markings on the trunk of the female.
