Zusammenfassung: | Acoustic properties of glycerol was investigated in a wide pressure range from ambient pressure to 30.9GPa by using a multi-pass Fabry–Perot interferometer and a diamond anvil cell. Pressure dependences of the sound velocity and the Brillouin linewidth showed substantial changes at low pressures below ~4GPa. This was attributed to the coupling between the main structural relaxation process and the longitudinal acoustic waves. The pressure dependence of the refractive index and the density of glycerol could be obtained by using two scattering geometries and the Lorentz–Lorenz relation. |
