Zusammenfassung:Unique photo-functionalities of luminescent Eu, Dy: SrAl2O4 glass ceramics with high transparency prepared by using the frozen sorbet technique are briefly reviewed. The crystal–glass composites have remarkable light-storage ability (e.g., charge-carrier trapping) based on the properties of SrAl2O4 crystals, and these provide characteristic photo-functionalities such as long-persistent luminescence and mechanoluminescence. In this review, the specific preparation of transparent SrAl2O4 glass composites using the frozen sorbet technique and their optical properties are described as novel light-storage materials for energy applications.
