Data on biological productivity of the Western tropical Pacific Ocean

Vertical distribution and production of phytoplankton and planktonic bacteria were studied in the pelagic and neritic regions of the Western tropical Pacific Ocean and in temperate waters of the Japan Sea. The stable, layering structure of the community and its daily fluctuations caused by grazing are described. Data on the integral daily production of communities under 1 m super(2) are presented. The data obtained are discussed with respect to the trophical relations in planktonic communities of the stratified sea basins.
