Zusammenfassung: | 4 clones identified as P. pemaquidensis were isolated from 2 sites on the northern coast of Norfolk, England. These isolates closely resemble the North American strains. In addition, organisms which may belong to another species of Paramoeba have been found in Norfolk material. In consideration of these findings and those of other workers, Paramoeba must be regarded as a common and widely distributed genus of marine amoebae. Because of the similarity of the species containing Nebenkorper yet the distinctiveness of such species as P. pemaquidensis, possession of a Nebenkorper, be it symbiont or organelle, appears to be characteristic of a morphologically and systematically homogeneous group of amoebae. |
