Zusammenfassung:Most primate mothers carry their offspring either ventro-ventrally or ventro-dorsally. This maternal investment can persist up to several months and aims at decreasing the risk of infant morality. The only two species in which infants are carried dorsally, and only occasionally, are the savannah-dwelling, semi-terrestrial species vervet and patas monkey. Motsch et al report and analyze the observatin of a ventro-dorsal infant-carrying behavior in the sun-tailed monkey.
