Zusammenfassung:The cesium 137 and strontium 90 transported from Finland by rivers into the Gulf of Finland, Gulf of Bothnia, and Archipelago Sea during 1986-96 was estimated. The analysis was based on long-term monitoring of these radionuclides in surface waters and on statistics of water discharges from Finnish rivers to these Baltic Sea areas. The total amounts of super(137)Cs and super(90)Sr removed from Finland into the Baltic Sea during the study period were 65 and 10 TBq. respectively. super(137)Cs deposition was much higher than that of super(90)Sr after the April 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl, Ukraine, but the amount of super(137)Cs removed from Finland is only six times as high as that of super(90)Sr.
