Chlorococcales sensu lato (Chlorophyceae) of artificial urban lake, Parana, Brazil

The study aimed to know the biodiversity of Chlorococcales s. l. of Cascavel Municipal Lake, located in Parana state, Brazil, an important area for recreation, sport and tourism, besides being important for public water supply. The samples were collected at four sampling stations of the lake shore region, in the summer of 2007 and 2008, totaling 24 samples. We identified, described and illustrated, of these 14 were recorded at specific and 3 at infraspecific level. Among the studied taxa, Pediastrum longecornutum (Gutwinsk) Comas e Desmodesmus arcuatus var. platydiscus G.M. Smith are new records for Parana State. The genera with the most species richness was Desmodesmus An, Friedl et Hegewald, with five taxa.Original Abstract: O estudo objetivou conhecer a biodiversidade de Chlorococcales s. l. do lago municipal de Cascavel, que esta situado em uma area destinada para lazer, esporte e turismo, alem de ser importante para o abastecimento publico. As coletas foram realizadas em quatro estacoes de amostragem na regiao litoranea do lago, no verao de 2007 e 2008, totalizando 24 amostras. Foram identificados, descritos e ilustrados 17 taxons, destes, 14 foram registrados em nivel especifico e tres em nivel infraespecifico, sendo Pediastrum longecornutum (Gutwinsk) Comas e Desmodesmus arcuatus var. platydiscus G.M. Smith primeiramente citados para o Estado do Parana. O genero com maior riqueza de especies foi Desmodesmus An, Friedl et Hegewald, com cinco taxons.
