Zusammenfassung: | [...]unlike gender, forestry does not have significantly lower ethic/racial diversity than do most other NR majors, and thus it seems as though the minority issue is more systemic in NR than is the gender issue. [...]our recommendations apply equally to all NR majors. * We should acknowledge the historical (and in some cases, continuing) discrimination against minorities with respect to access to land and natural resources (Schelhas 2002) and strategize on how to minimize this discrimination. Conversely, certain majors tend to attract some minority groups more so than others, and thus those overseeing these majors may want to focus their efforts accordingly. [...]the fact that various minorities are not evenly distributed across the country (Sharik et al. 2015) suggests that efforts at recruiting minorities at specific institutions are likely to be more successful if focused on those that are better represented in the local and regional populations. |
