Zusammenfassung:Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California is a two campus, non-trauma community hospital with an in-house Intensivist program. The organ donation program is well-established and maintains the highest rate of organ donation for local non-trauma hospitals. An active donation after circulatory death (DCD) program was successfully implemented and thirty percent of Hoag donation cases are DCD. An Organ and Tissue Donation Council (OTDC) was formed to oversee all donation related activities. The Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) environment added another level of complexity. The OTDC physician chair formed a work-group to streamline the process with the goals of providing education and a reference document. Development of an easy reference document for organ donation has reduced delay and improved efficiency and education. Real time feedback was used to identify process improvement opportunities and update hospital policy and procedure. The improved process has enhanced Hoag Hospital's ability to best serve the donors and their families and would be an excellent resource for other donor hospitals.
