Book reviews : "A world of innovation : cartography in the time of Gerhard Mercator"

Reviews "A world of innovation : cartography in the time of Gerhard Mercator," edited by Gerhard Holzer, Valerie Newby, Petra Svatek, and Georg Zotti (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015). The papers in this collection stem from an International Map Collectors Society (IMCoS) symposium in 2012 celebrating the 500th anniversary of Mercator's birth. As is usual in such collections the 13 papers cover a variety of topics. The book is divided into four sections: cartography in the Habsburg Empire in the time of Mercator; Gerhard Mercator: his "Atlas" and the cosmography of his time; Gerhard Mercator: acquaintances and sources; and globes and celestial maps in the time or Mercator. Each essay is followed by a bibliography and notes. [Revised Publication Abstract]
