The Geopolitics of Revolution

Washington policy makers understood World War I as a fundamental challenge to the old imperial order both in terms of geopolitics and ideology. The Bolshevik Revolution merged the two. Wilson's response relied heavily on ideas about how the American development of the West could be transferred to Siberia, thereby outflanking both German and Allied plans for dominating Russia after the war, while also providing an alternative to Bolshevism.
