ABO blood type B and fucosyltransferase 2 non-secretor status as genetic risk factors for chronic pancreatitis

Zusammenfassung:Camps et al 6 have established significant differences in terms of ABO blood type and FUT2 secretor status between 1000 alcoholic patients and non-alcoholic controls. [...]the exclusion of alcohol consumers from the control group significantly influences ABO blood group distribution as well as the prevalence of FUT2 non-secretors. [...]their study has little to contribute to the question of whether or not ABO blood type and FUT2 non-secretor status need to be included in the growing list of genetic risk factors for chronic pancreatitis. 7 We agree with the conclusion of Kirsten et al that further replication studies with larger sample sizes and under inclusion of environmental factors are required.
