Zusammenfassung: | Orphan-schooling is a 'unique' institutional arrangement where the state addresses child deprivation. These destitute children most often belong to the poorest social stratum. The present paper on orphan-schooling derives its reflexive insights from Sripuram, a multi-caste village in Tamil Nadu. This village was studied by André Béteille in the 1960s for his sociological fieldwork on caste, class, and power. Revisiting the same village, this paper analyses the dimensions of caste, class, and education. |
