Highlights • Fully functional MHC complexes are transferred among immune cells. • The mechanisms of MHC transfer include trogocytosis, exosomes, and nanotubes. • Both MHC class I and MHC II molecules are transferred. • Transferred MHC complexes can activate antigen-specific T lymphocytes.
