Sodium and rhodium complexes of a spirocyclic Te sub(5) dianion supported by P sub(2)N sub(2) rings

Reactions of the dianion [Te( super(t)BuN)P( mu -N super(t)Bu) sub(2)P(N super(t)Bu)Te] super(2-) with I sub(2) or [Cp*RhCl sub(2)] sub(2) unexpectedly produced complexes of the novel spirocyclic Te sub(5) dianion [{ super(t)BuN(Te)P( mu -N super(t)Bu) sub(2)P(Te)N super(t)Bu} sub(2) mu - Te] super(2-), which is N,N'-coordinated to two Na super(+) ions in the disodium derivative and adopts a Te,Te',Te''-bonding mode in the Cp*Rh complex.
