The effect of metal ions on the toxicity of paralytic shellfish poison

Zusammenfassung:The median lethal dose of paralytic shellfish poison was determined in the presence of 24 different metal ions. The toxicity of the poison was reduced in the presence of Na + and augmented when Ca ++, Ba ++, Sr ++, Mg ++, Mn ++, Co ++, Ni ++, Fe ++, and Fe +++ ions were present. A large number of monovalent, divalent, trivalent, and tetravalent metal ions had no influence on the toxicity of paralytic shellfish poison at the level tested.
