Zusammenfassung: | The author argues that the skills, knowledge and precision that craft demands are often immaterial to success in the contemporary art world. To illustrate his point he uses the example of an installation by the British artist Sarah Lucas, which in his opinion is devoid of any artistic skill or craftsmanship. He refers to the writings of Richard Sennett and Peter Dormer on the importance of developing craft skills and explains that an interesting work of art requires not only knowledge and imagination but also craftsmanship. He also presents four concepts which he believes make an interesting work of art. |
