Zusammenfassung:The aim of this work is to describe the development of Catalan society from 1980 to 2013. In this society, the accession to democracy initially brought a strong growth not only of the working population, but also of wealth, culture, consumption, and even a decrease in inequality. Thereafter, as a result of the economic crisis, we saw the deterioration of this situation, with the reappearance of impoverishment, the increase of unemployment especially among young people, who experienced great difficulty in entering the labour market. The crisis, however, has not impacted everybody in this way. Even during the years of prosperity social classes continued to exist, although their presence was masked by the ideology of middle classes society. With the economic crisis, inequalities once again are increasing and the differences between classes are becoming very obvious, so much so that Catalan society is breaking up and trying to reinvent a new political collective project centered on independence.
