Zusammenfassung: | Water hyacinths (Eichhornia Crassipes) collected from the Nile river were exposed to concentrations of 100 ppm cadmium. Solutions were renewed every 3 d. Plants were harvested and cadmium binding proteins isolated and purified with Sephadex A-25 and fractionated on Sephadex G100. Thirty five per cent of accumulated cadmium was associated with protein of molecular weight between 20-25 kD and 40 per cent with protein of molecular weight 8-12 kD. Both proteins were isolated from plants exposed to control levels of 0.03 ppm cadmium although accumulated cadmium concentrations were lower. |
