Zusammenfassung: | Abstract Concurrent cardiac disease is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in vascular surgical patients. Increasingly, cardiac biomarkers are used to identify cardiac injury in these high-risk patients. This review provides data demonstrating that perioperative troponin elevation correlates with poor short- and long-term outcomes for vascular surgical patients. In addition, the data demonstrate that patients with high circulating troponin levels fair worse than those with lower levels. Early identification of patients with cardiac injury using biomarkers allows timely diagnosis, risk stratification, and aggressive medical therapy for vascular surgical patients. |
