Zusammenfassung:With the American invasion of Irak, women's access to the field of media has contributed to the emergence of new forms of violence specifically targeting them. The patriarchal tradition, Islamist radical movements, and the ethnoreligious structure of this society further complicate the exercise of such a profession by women. Through the analysis of NGO reports, personal research, and the collection of testimonies we will attempt to elucidate the different aspects of violence these women have to confront in Iraqi society. This violence will also to be taken as an indicator of the empowerment of Iraqi women practicing journalism, and of changes affecting the representation of their proper place in the public sphere by the most traditionalist groups in Iraqi society.
