A six-year monitoring study of tributyltin and dibutyltin in mussel tissues from the Lynher River, Tamar Estuary, UK

Zusammenfassung:Tributyltin (TBT) and dibutyltin (DBT) levels were determined in mussels (Mytilus edulis) from the Lynher river, U.K., from November 1987 to October 1993. TBT concentrations in mussel tissue were lower in winter and higher in late spring and early summer. Maximal TBT concentrations decreased from 2.08 ug per g in May 1988 to 0.95 ug per g in May 1991, following legislation relating to TBT-based marine paints. TBT concentrations increased after May 1991, indicating an elevated TBT input into the estuary from some other source. The effects of water flow on TBT concentrations in mussels is discussed. DBT concentrations in mussels also corresponded to water flow in the Tamar.
