Zusammenfassung: | Plesiomonas shigelloides is an oxidase-positive, gram-negative, motile rod that belongs as a single species to the family Vibrionaceae. This bacterium is found occasionally in surface waters, soil, fish, shellfish, and other aquatic animals in temperate and tropical areas. P. shigelloides has been implicated as the etiologic agent in sporadic cases of gastrointestinal illness. Extraintestinal infections have rarely been reported in the literature. Herein, we report a case of septicemia due to P. shigelloides in a patient with primary hemochromatosis. |
