A Remarkable Organometallic Transformation on a Cage-Incarcerated Dinuclear Ruthenium Complex

Zusammenfassung:Under confinement: Photosubstitution of a CO ligand with an alkyne on a dinuclear ruthenium carbonyl complex within a self‐assembled cage occurs without the cleavage of the photolabile RuRu bond. The resulting Ru–alkyne π complex is a reaction intermediate stabilized inside the cage. Outside the cage, the π complex can be further transformed to a diruthenacyclopentenone framework by intramolecular CO insertion (see scheme).
