Cyclodextrin Nitrate Ester/H sub(2)SO sub(4) as a Novel Nitrating System for Efficient Synthesis of Insensitive High Explosive 3-Nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one

A highly efficient and novel protocol for the synthesis of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) using cyclodextrin nitrate ester (CDN) as a solid and safer catalyst is described.
