Zusammenfassung: | New Zealand faces a changing security environment. It can no longer rely on its distance from the world's trouble spots for safety. The rapid rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIS, is a game changer for this country. A well-resourced, globally focused terrorist entity, highly skilled in recruitment techniques utilising social media, it exposes us to a type of threat that we lack both the legislative tools and resources to combat. The government will promote a range of legislative measures to bolster its ability to deal with this threat. It will also consider means of providing military training for the Iraqi armed forces. |
