Zusammenfassung: | On the basis of written data from Swiss university students of Danish as a foreign language, this paper illustrates how self‐positioning takes place through beginners' foreign language. The participants write about their experiences with foreign language learning during the first three semesters of the language course, where they are more preoccupied with formal linguistic aspects than with identity or social functions of language. Although they do not feel secure about using Danish, they are able to perform self‐positioning as high expectancy students, language experts, and hard‐working students through their new foreign language. Identity work related to foreign language acquisition is usually investigated in more proficient learners, but this paper demonstrates that self‐positioning can take place at the early stages of foreign language acquisition.
Baseret på skriftlige data fra schweiziske universitetsstuderende, der lærer dansk som fremmedsprog, illustrerer artiklen hvordan selv‐positionering finder sted ved hjælp af begynderes fremmedsprog. Meddelerne skriver om deres erfaringer med at lære dansk i løbet af de første tre semestre af kurset, hvor de generelt er mere optagede af formelle aspekter af sproget end af identitet eller sociale aspekter af sproget. Selvom de ikke føler sig sikre i deres danske sprogbrug, er de i stand til at positionere sig som studerende med høje forventninger, som sprogeksperter og som hårdtarbejdende studerende på det nye fremmedsprog. Identitetsarbejde relateret til fremmedsprogstilegnelse undersøges som regel hos viderekomne indlærere, men denne artikel viser, at selv‐positionering kan finde sted tidligt i indlæringsprocessen. |
