Place names in the parish of Taragona (Rianxo, O Barbanza). Etymological study

The main aim of this paper is to analyze the etymologies of place names in San Salvador de Taragona (Rianxo, O Barbanza). First of all, names assigned to the parish listed in the Nomenclator de Galicia are examined; however, the paper's scope has been extended to include names not contained in the Nomenclator but also designating inhabited areas within the parish. The article suggests that the latter might be taken into account in future revisions of the Nomenclator. Authorized sources are used for the analysis of the corpus, discussing different proposed etymologies in the light of each place's terrain and history. I suggest etymologies for place names not previously analyzed. The paper includes references to medieval texts in which a given place is mentioned as well as information from the Ensenada register and Madoz's dictionary. Adapted from the source document
