Scales of plankton patchiness: biomass versus demography

Analyses of the spatial variability of zooplankton in a 100×100 km site in the northern North Sea show that the biomass has relatively small-scale but large-amplitude patchiness, whereas the stage structure of the dominant copepod. Calanus finnwrchicus, is uncorrelated at these scales.
