Isolation of spring viraemia of carp virus from asymptomatic broodstock carp, Cyprinus carpio L

Spring viraemia of carp (SVC) is an acute systemic viral infection of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L. The clinical disease has long been known in Europe as the acute form of infectious dropsy of carp, but the causative viral agent has only recently been isolated. Subsequently, the virus has been isolated in several countries, including Hungary. The present study was carried out to determine whether 5-10-year-old carp used for induced spawning shed virus during these manipulations.
