Development of an Ice Information System (IIS) to be implemented at the NERSC

This paper describes the first stage in the development of the Ice Information System (IIS) to be implemented at the NERSC. The potential users of the IIS and typical products and services of the IIS are identified. An exhaustive survey of the input data sources is presented with emphasis on differences in formats, spatial and temporal sampling characteristics, and measured parameters. The potential problems of integrating different types of input data are discussed and approaches for overcoming these are mentioned. A number of output scenarios from a multisensor perspective are outlined.
